Amazing place
We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The rooms had been recently fully renovated, and the entire hotel complex also looked completely refurbished. Everything felt brand new, exceptionally clean, and fresh — even the rooms smelled like freshly washed linens.
The housekeeping staff and the entire team were incredibly kind, attentive, and always ready to help with anything we needed. The SPA area was also very clean and well maintained.
The surroundings are absolutely stunning. The hotel is surrounded entirely by mountains, with beautiful views everywhere and the peaceful sound of birds all day long. Overall, it is a truly beautiful and relaxing place.
The food was absolutely delicious, with a very good variety of options. We also appreciated that there were meals suitable for babies, plenty of high chairs available in the restaurant, and baby cots provided in the rooms.
The main — and probably only — downside is accessibility. Unfortunately, the hotel is not suitable for people with disabilities, wheelchair users, or even families with strollers, because there are stairs everywhere. Although there are elevators, you still need to go up or down 10–20 steps before or after using them in order to reach the rooms, restaurant, or SPA area. We were there with a baby stroller and it is difficult but manageable if you carry it, however for wheelchair users it would be practically impossible.
Another small issue was that smoking was allowed in one of the corridors, and the cigarette smoke occasionally reached our room, which was a bit unpleasant.

Far Below the Standard It Claims to Offer
Hotel Sunce was, unfortunately, a major disappointment. There are some genuinely good elements, particularly the spa and pool area, but the overall experience was far below the standard and image this hotel tries to present.
The problems started before we even arrived.
When I first called to inquire about a reservation, the receptionist, Ivan, recommended a room that he described as a nice room with a beautiful view. After checking the hotel website more carefully, I realized that the room looked extremely small for two people, with a sloped ceiling, so I called again and asked to upgrade to a Premium or Deluxe room.
Another receptionist, Vladimir, took my details and assured me that Ivan would contact me. Nobody called.
I then sent an email. Nobody replied to that either.
This is hardly the level of communication one expects from a hotel that presents itself as an upscale spa property.
Upon arrival, the experience did not improve significantly.
The lunch package was nicely packed, but once opened, it was almost comical: two miniature sandwiches, a muffin, one small pastry and two miniature peaches. No cutlery. Not even a napkin. Presentation apparently received more attention than the actual contents.
And the “beautiful view” we had been told about? A view of the parking lot.
The balcony was equally disappointing and very basic.
Breakfast was another low point. The selection was surprisingly limited, the cold cuts appeared to be of very modest quality, and the cheeses were sliced and displayed in such a way that it was difficult even to identify what was being served. Overall, both the quality and presentation felt much closer to a basic budget hotel than to the category and atmosphere Hotel Sunce is trying to promote.
There are positives, and they deserve to be mentioned. The spa and pool area are very pleasant, and the food at the pool bar was actually good. Unfortunately, even there attention to detail was lacking: drink arrived in a visibly dirty glass, which we had to ask to have replaced.
The music around the pool was also unnecessarily loud.
The hotel itself is surprisingly confusing to navigate, with corridors and different areas making it feel like a labyrinth.
Unfortunately, Sokobanja itself was another disappointment. The surrounding nature is beautiful and probably the best reason to visit the area. The town, however, is in serious need of investment and maintenance. The main pedestrian street has damaged paving, the overall appearance feels neglected, and the large number of second-hand shops contributes to an atmosphere very far removed from an elegant spa resort.
Anyone expecting the polished atmosphere of a high-end European spa destination should significantly adjust their expectations.
In summary: beautiful nature, a good spa and pool, and good food at the pool bar. But these positives cannot compensate for poor communication, unanswered emails and calls, misleading expectations regarding the room and its “beautiful view,” a disappointing breakfast, questionable attention to cleanliness and basic service details.
There is potential here, but potential is not the same as quality.
For a hotel positioning itself at this level, we expected considerably more.

A person in a wheelchair cannot use the hotel at all.
I am extremely disappointed with this hotel.
It is unacceptable that in the 21st century, a hotel with such high prices does not offer a single room adapted for people with disabilities or wheelchair users. Even more concerning is the fact that the hotel itself is full of stairs, making access very difficult or impossible for people with reduced mobility.
This practically means that a person in a wheelchair cannot use the hotel at all. For a place that claims to provide comfort and quality, this is completely unacceptable.
In my opinion, this is a form of discrimination against people with disabilities. In countries with stricter regulations, such a situation would likely lead to serious consequences for the hotel.
I strongly hope that the management will take responsibility and make the hotel accessible to everyone.

Everything is pleasant, but the attitude is not.
I stayed here every year in early August since 2021, However this year is a bit different. In the most respectful way possible staff have been a bit colder this year. Some of them have given attitude but most of them are very welcoming. Food was good as always, the pools were nice, they had a ping pong table and in General the stay was pleasant just that some staff haven’t been the warmest. A little side rant as well is that we had to wait over an hour for the staff to bring the robes and towels and they never came so when we went up to the front desk to ask about it the staff just gave us straight up attitude and acted like they were annoyed or bothered. Other than that it was a nice stay again.
