Dakar’s finest
Luxury experience - friendly staff (Aziz and Aziz were our favorites plus Alioune at breakfast who remembered our name.) and a beautiful property. Pool was spacious with great views, and the food was excellent. Exclusively bar playing local music on vinyl was great too!

Nice standard hotel with great staff
Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay at Terrou-Bi and would recommend it, especially for anyone looking for a resort-style experience in Dakar.
The biggest standout was the staff. Everyone we encountered throughout the hotel was incredibly kind, welcoming, and attentive. We did have a few communication issues leading up to our arrival, as it took some time to get responses to our questions, but everything was resolved just before we arrived.
We also booked our excursions through the hotel, and our guide was excellent. He was knowledgeable, professional, and made for a fantastic experience. My only suggestion would be regarding the pricing of the excursions. It felt like there was a significant markup through the hotel, and I hope more of that cost finds its way to the local guides who do such an outstanding job.
The grounds are beautiful. The pool is absolutely massive and was one of our favorite places to spend the afternoon. Being able to order lunch poolside made it even better. The hotel also has a great bar with a fun atmosphere, and our oceanfront balcony was a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the view.
The rooms themselves were comfortable but fairly basic for a five-star property. They felt a bit dated and could benefit from some updating, though they were clean and well maintained.
One thing we really appreciated was the service on our departure day. We had already checked out but had a late-night flight, and the hotel graciously allowed us to use a room later in the day to shower and change before heading to the airport. That small gesture made a huge difference after a long day and was a wonderful example of their hospitality.
Overall, Terrou-Bi offers a beautiful setting, excellent service, and great amenities. While there are a few areas that could be improved, particularly the guest rooms and the pricing structure of excursions, we left with a very positive impression and would happily stay here again.

Expected more
I recently stayed at a hotel that left me with mixed feelings. Upon arrival, I found the room to be decent, but I was surprised to discover it lacked basic amenities like an iron and ironing board. On the brighter side, there was a charming little balcony that added a nice touch to the accommodation.
The housekeeping staff truly stood out during my stay. They were exceptionally friendly and service-minded, which made my experience more pleasant. The security staff also impressed me; they were friendly and attentive, contributing to a feeling of safety throughout my visit. I decided to treat myself by visiting the spa, and that turned out to be one of the highlights of my trip. The treatments were excellent, the service was top-notch, and the ambiance was lovely—definitely worth a visit.
Despite the hotel's cleanliness and well-maintained environment, the atmosphere was quite loud. It seemed that the nearby fish restaurant and the entertainment venue, Magic Land, contributed to the noise, making it difficult to find any quiet moments.
Unfortunately, I encountered some communication issues with the service staff in the bars and restaurants, as well as on the beach. Many of them struggled with English, which led to misunderstandings and forgetfulness regarding orders, especially when I asked about ingredients in the food. Given the price I paid for the stay, I expected a higher standard of service, which made it feel overpriced.
I also booked a tour to Banda and Pink Lake through the hotel, but I was disappointed with that experience as well. The transportation provided was an old, banged-up Toyota, and I had no way to open or close the windows myself. With no air conditioning, I had to rely on the driver opening the windows for air, which wasn’t ideal, especially given the dry and poor air quality.
While this hotel is highly rated and considered the number one choice according to reviews, my experience suggests that the noise levels, communication issues, and transportation concerns significantly detracted from my overall enjoyment. I would advise potential visitors to keep these factors in mind when deciding if this hotel is right for them.
