First time

It's very cheap for Thamel's heart.
Breakfast on the very roof of the house!
This feeling of freedom
I don't want to be dishonest, so I'll also describe the disadvantages.
So, the disadvantages:
3$ is not enough for a flight to space and to Everest

Great location hotel with friendly staff but watch out for extra charges for transportation

Hotel is nice and in very good location, close to Thamel. The receptionist boy and cleaning lady were very nice. The owner - Shalik was friendly and nice too but I didn't like that he wasn't completely honest with us. They charge $8 each way for drive from or to the airport when the real cost is $2-3. The second time I was told it is $15/one way and I was told about his upcharge after the trip without any information ahead of time. It is much better to get a Nepalese SIM card at the airport and register for one of the taxi apps. You can then take a taxi anywhere for a few bucks. Also, some gentleman who does not work at the hotel and only stops by there once in a while in a lobby, tries to lure tourists to use his transportation for the trips. For a $15 trip outside of the city that we ended up booking ourselves with taxi driver he offered for $60-75!!! That is the only bad memory we have of this hotel. Instead of them helping their guests to have the best experience of Kathmandu, they try to get as much money out of them as possible for offering a very expensive service. Everything else, like location, cleanliness or the staff of the hotel were great.

Best Hostel in Kathmandu, Value for Money

Friendliest staff who will make sure that you will have lovely time there and they will make you feel that you are a part of their family not just a guest. I arrived in Nepal and they already arranged my pick up and drop from the airport, Shalik wanted to make sure that no one will actually take advantage of me by paying too much amount in my service and he is the one who to deal with, every time I will pay something and he will think that its too much charge he will advise when and not to pay. My first day was a free tour from him, he took me around the city by taking on his motorbike without any additional charge not even accepting my money for the petrol.
Rooms are super clean, hot shower is available I took the Mt. Everest room which has a balcony, huge room that can fit 3 to 4 person. Rooftop view is amazing, especially sunset time.
Location is very near to Bar, cheap restaurants and cafes.
My last night, they allow me to use their kitchen to cook food for everyone, I prepared Filipino dish which I shared to the staff and guest of the hostel.
Thank you Rambler for taking care of me and made me part of your family. For sure will come back every time I will visit Kathmandu.

Best hostel in Kathmandu

Amazing hostel! It has the most friendliest staff who will make sure that you will have lovely time there.
I did a trek trough them and it was an inredible experience. Shalik also showed us the best bar to go on new years eve and joined us. He also recommended best places to go and how to go in Kathmandu. Rooms are super clean and hot shower is great. Rooftop view is amazing, specially at the sunset time. There are lots of good and cheap restaurants and cafes nearby. Sabal cafe is the best! The location is also really good for checking main places in Kathmandu like Durbar square which is only five minutes away. Thank you Rambler, you really made my time in Kathmandu <3

Fabulous hostel at great value

Cannot say enough good things about the staff at Rambler. They are so friendly and go above and beyond to make sure you have what you need. The beds are comfortable and the showers are hot. Great location in the heart of Thamel. Stayed here for 2.5 weeks. Highly recommend if you’re on a budget and looking for friendly staff and great location. Will definitely be back!
