Reliable and comfortable choice in Ulaanbaatar

Spent 5 nights here during my business trip. It’s a classic hotel recently refurbished. The room I had was spacious and thoughtfully laid out, plenty of space for walking, wardrobe and laying down my luggage. Beds were firm but comfortable, and the room felt quiet and well-insulated for a good sleep. Liked the clean and contemporary bathroom that has a modern shower with good water pressure. The buffet breakfast was pleasant and reliable to start the workday. Though not extensive in variety, it was still a comfortable and spacious dining environment. Location-wise, it is nicely within walking distance to city dining and shopping, as well as key attractions. Overall, it feels closer to a boutique hotel than what might be expected from an older property. And of great value considering its city location.

Don’t forget to pay for the towel!

I had what could have been a decent stay, but it was then ruined. During my stay, I had a sudden medical issue involving bleeding and had to use one of the room towels to handle the emergency.
Instead of showing empathy when they found out, the staff’s only reaction was to demand that I pay for the towel.
A hotel’s true character is revealed by how they handle unexpected situations. Ulaanbaatar Hotel proved that they view their guests merely as transaction receipts, not human beings.

I have stayed at Ulaanbaatar Hotel several times and have been completely happy with my choice. The staff is professional and friendly.

Still too far to be a decent hotel

I stayed in this hotel 23 years ago. The hotel has since been renovated but it is still a very basic and traditional local operation.
For two days there was no hot shower. The gym on the sixth floor is equipped with old soviet style equipment and does not open until 9am. Breakfast is basic and the dining room is narrow and dark. The only thing I liked was its central location in the city.

Excellent housekeeping staff, friendly front desk service, and delicious breakfast.
The room was comfortable and quiet.
