If we could give this place 10 stars we definitely would. Just arrived back from a 2 week holiday. 1st time in crete. All the staff,Eva & Dimitri were fantastic.we felt like family all the time we were there. Cleaning girls tidied our room daily changed towels every day. Bar staff steffi and yoann were always full of smiles. Breakfast girls helena and crew were always on hand for the breakfast buffet which was oustanding..Antonio (boss son) greeted us on arrival. So happy and helpful and so full of knowledge. Eva was also very helpful in anything we asked.such a lovely lady. Very informative.And of course Mr Dimitri. I'd love him as a father. He is the most generous welcoming man I've ever known. He never asks for anything in return. We were lucky to spend 2 sunday mornings out with him and a few others were he showed us his olive fields,there were 1000s. The monastery In his village then took us on to a local restaurant for light lunch and drink.i dont know another owner that does that. So very much appreciative of all his hospitality. We dined at the restaurant over the road. Either walk 5 mins to it or get the free minibus over.the walk is fine.through an underpass which is OK. (I know people have moaned about it. But I never see a problem. ) Driver is Pablo. Such a lovely guy.,never a problem for Pablo.. bar staff at restaurant mickey & maruis love them. So funny...All in All this is the best holiday we've been on in the last 10 years everybody was so welcoming.really can't wait to go back.the food whether it be buffet dinner or A la carte was always spot on. Miss you all already

Just AMAZING!!
We have just returned from a week at The Thalassi hotel and it just was not long enough!!
From check in Eva took care of us, explained everything and took us to our room which was big and clean with fridge.
Pool is clean and we got a sunbed whenever we needed one. The staff at the hotel are just amazing and can’t do enough for you. Steffi runs the pool bar in the evening and is just hilarious and always made sure we weren’t without a drink for long and even making sure we had our favourite glasses.
Breakfast is served buffet style in the hotel and it’s freshly made and they are always restocking to ensure everyone has what they want.
Half board evening meals are served at the Thalassi Restaurant which is a 5 min walk or they provide a shuttle bus there and back. Each day there was something different on the buffet and it was all freshly cooked. Definitely try the soup!! Plenty of tables and the most spectacular view! The restaurant also does al la cart which you must try at least once and hotel guests get 20% of menu prices.
Demitri and Marcus are the most amazing hosts and looked after us all week, we even went in the day times down to the beach area at the side of the restaurant and then come up and have a few drinks and play cards under an umbrella.
Mondays they have a live singer in and Fridays is Greek night where they have dancers and music on.
The staff at the hotel and the restaurant could not do enough for us and I genuinely felt like extended family by the middle of the week. Demitri even took a select few of us out on the Sunday to see his village and monastery, his farm and many many olive trees and we stopped at a lovely cafe for coffee and raki which Demitri paid for. Demitri is passionate about his food and business and he explained to us all how he doesn’t use any pesticides on his crops and it’s all natural which made his food even more appealing.
The hotel is not in a busy area but it has 2 supermarkets, 2 bakeries and a pharmacy nearby and the centre of Rethymno is 20 mins by bus which is only €2.20 euros or €23 in a taxi which we did a couple of days.
I would recommend this hotel and restaurant to anybody and I will definitely be back!!

Crete 2026
Spent 7 nights at Thalassi.
We did enjoy staying here and it was a clean and tidy hotel. Most of the staff did make you feel welcome and were very friendly.
We did make some friends here which was lovely.
The owners Dimitri and Eva were not the most friendly and they can be quite rude and arrogant towards their guests.
The food was a buffet style which wasn't stated when booking.
Very small selection.
It was generally ok. Some buffet choices never changed and was served all the time.
You couldn't sit by the sea unless you paid for a separate A LA carte menu, so the two rows next to the sea was extra, even though we had paid for our evening meal as we stayed half board.
Dimitri didn't like people paying by card as they only had one person who was able to operate the card machine and you had to wait. I didn't mind waiting but wanted to show me how busy the resturaunt was and I should be using cash as his head bartender has better things to do than using the card machine for one person.
He shouted many times saying his food was the best Greece has ever seen, his food was poor at times.
He ignored generally people who did not choose the A LA carte menu and only focused on people who chose to pay extra.
The owners did choose their favourite guests and some did get lifts and day trips out with them and others were not welcomed or asked.
We only visited the restaurant for the evening meal three times and went elsewhere for the other 5 nights.
The tavern down the road from the hotel , there food is delicious and good value for money.
You had to pay extra for air con and pay in cash.
You have to pay in cash for tourist tax at the end of your stay €35 based on seven nights.
Eva stated that she told us this when we checked in but in fact sh didn't until we were checking out and I had to go the cash machine up the road before our coach arrived.
Unfortunately we would not stay at Thalassi hotel again. Crete is an amazing place and would love to come back, some of the places we visited were amazing.
We did enjoy staying here and it was a clean and tidy hotel. Most of the staff did make you feel welcome and were very friendly.
We did make some friends here which was lovely.
The owners Dimitri and Eva were not the most friendly and they can be quite rude and arrogant towards their guests.
The food was a buffet style which wasn't stated when booking.
Very small selection.
It was generally ok. Some buffet choices never changed and was served all the time.
You couldn't sit by the sea unless you paid for a separate A LA carte menu, so the two rows next to the sea was extra, even though we had paid for our evening meal as we stayed half board.
Dimitri didn't like people paying by card as they only had one person who was able to operate the card machine and you had to wait. I didn't mind waiting but wanted to show me how busy the resturaunt was and I should be using cash as his head bartender has better things to do than using the card machine for one person.
He shouted many times saying his food was the best Greece has ever seen, his food was poor at times.
He ignored generally people who did not choose the A LA carte menu and only focused on people who chose to pay extra.
The owners did choose their favourite guests and some did get lifts and day trips out with them and others were not welcomed or asked.
We only visited the restaurant for the evening meal three times and went elsewhere for the other 5 nights.
The tavern down the road from the hotel , there food is delicious and good value for money.
You had to pay extra for air con and pay in cash.
You have to pay in cash for tourist tax at the end of your stay €35 based on seven nights.
Eva stated that she told us this when we checked in but in fact sh didn't until we were checking out and I had to go the cash machine up the road before our coach arrived.
Unfortunately we would not stay at Thalassi hotel again. Crete is an amazing place and would love to come back, some of the places we visited were amazing.

From Wonderful to Even Better – Thalassi Hotel
After an amazing holiday at Thalassi in 2025, we decided to come back this year—and we certainly didn’t regret it. Although we wondered if this trip could possibly live up to our first stay, we were completely wrong. We enjoyed our holiday even more than our first visit to Crete and Thalassi.
A special thank you to the wonderful ladies—Eva, Stefi, Eleni, and Joanna—who made our stay truly unforgettable. A big shout-out to Anthony, who was always happy to recommend authentic Cretan restaurants and hidden gems in the island’s interior, and to the amazing Stefi for all the great evenings at the Thalassi bar, with excellent cocktails, plenty of laughs, and fantastic company.
We can’t thank the team enough for their incredible hospitality, friendliness, and willingness to help with anything we needed. Their advice and local knowledge made exploring Crete so much easier and even more enjoyable.
The rooms are spotless, and the housekeeping is exceptional. Bedding, pillowcases, and towels are changed every other day without fail.
Breakfast offers an excellent variety of savoury and sweet options, fresh fruit, and a great selection of coffees, teas, and juices.
We absolutely loved our 2026 holiday at Thalassi and in Crete. There’s a very good chance I’ll be updating this review again with our 2027 experience!

Geordies on hols
Many thanks to Eva & Dimitris for our stay at this hotel . The room was spacious & clean , the fridge was handy . All staff at the hotel and restaurant were extremely friendly and couldnt do enough for us . Dimitris --the BOSS-- is a giant who helps nearly everyone providing you dont take the mickey. Would we return -- definitely!!
