and it was all yellow
Around a week before we're due to set off, I emailed the "contact us" part of their website to ask about kettles, beach towels and could we bring along our folding mobility scooter - the good lady is struggling with arthritis in the knees? Having heard not a jot, I phoned up direct, said could we do English and the presumably manageress said yes, you rent a towel with a returnable deposit, there's a kettle in the room and we can accommodate the scooter. One mind put at rest then.
Until we arrive at the airport that is. The scooter won't start so its bundled back in the boot of the car. Nonetheless, some 5 hours or so later, we're scooter less and at the hotel. As per booking we're allocated a lovely room in the recently refurbished hotel overlooking the canyon Cala and out to sea. Just as The King thinks the world smells of wet paint, the hotel décor is tastefully done too. Tidy room, aircon stuck on 17 degrees, all you need and cleaned regularly.
Meals were fine, a good choice to mix and match although I do prefer my food piping hot: some of it was heading towards lukewarm for me. But with temperatures in the low forties, its not going to get any colder anytime soon is it?
Pool, well much has been said already. Halfway through the stay I called the lifeguard over and pointed out an accumulation of presumably sand and bits of body in one corner. "Maintaineo" he says; this must be the Spanish equivalent of "above my pay grade" but early next day, Senor Maintaineo is indeed out and busy cleaning the pool. I should work for United Nations.
That said, from our balcony at sunrise never saw anyone sampling the somewhat cloudy water. I'm presuming there's a record somewhere but I would have liked to have a seen a whiteboard in a near proximity with the daily readings - but this is what happens to you when you've been sent by your works on a pool maintenance course.
Sunrise. Oh yes. As is much the de rigeur in these places, its the starting gun for the Sunbed Dash to begin. I'm of the genre that waits as long as possible then its a case of if you can't beat em, join em. The only thing I hate are those individuals who do the Sunbed Dash then go out for the day. In the future, we're going to have sunbeds numbered and we'll be allocated one or have to rent one for the duration. I can see it coming. Thank you Mr and Mrs Poland.
Punters from the beach use the poolside sun deck as a short cut from the beach to the hotel or whatever it is next door. Its not a problem for me, saves the kids having to go round the main street and I can't stand the sight of blood. The odd few call by and partake of a quick dip in "our" pool en route. I can live with that too. What galled me most was 2 lads who, having had a dip, washed their sun lotions in the water then rinsed off their sandals too. We have a few selective adjectives in England that are especially made for such an event.
So it all sounds a bit negative when you read this back. I'll tell you what makes this a great hotel and not just a good one - the staff. To get from the lobby to the pool deck if you are infirm or disabled means you can use their stairlift and for this, you need a member of staff pulling off regular duties to operate the Xbox thingy that drives it. No - one ever looked as though we were asking too much and appeared patient enough to help the better half on and off. (6 times a day in fact)
A box lift may have done the job far easier but I don't design hotels, I just stay in them. In the bars, restaurant, pool bar and reception, nothing is too much trouble. Lightweight entertainment some nights too. When the lift stopped working, we were accompanied up to 3 in the secret service lift. Shhh!! When the good lady on reception heard about the dead scooter, next day she had arranged for us to have a brand new rugged terrain hire model delivered.
So we got to see Cala Gran, the marina by day and even the Freddy Mercury tribute up the road at night; something that we wouldn't have otherwise been able to do. And on the last day when requesting an early morning shout, a generous snack and coffee was provided without charge. Now that's going the extra mile.
And lastly but not least, we got to see the Total Eclipse with the Starfish who run catamaran mini cruises all day from the jetty next to the hotel as icing on the pastel. Read this and weep Aula Sol Hotels! What a holiday!

Upon arrival room was clean and appeared to be very modern after recent renovations however lacks storage space in both the bedroom and bathroom. As the week went on the cleaning of our room was non existent - what we thought was fresh towels was actually just our used ones which had been folded so were still wet when we went to use them again, I split make up on the bedding and instead of changing it the cleaners just flipped the sheet. The floor was absolutely disgusting and definitely hadn’t been swept or cleaned the whole week. The pool area was clean for the first few days of our trip, towards the end the pool was dirty with rubbish floating around and a fowl smell within the area too. Huge lack of sun loungers, one life guard starting removing towels that hadn’t been used as people try to reserve all day. The pool area is used as a pass through to the beach which means lots of random people passing throughout the day. The pool bar served cold drinks in dirty cups, I had to take back a drink with multiple dead ants floating around. The staff appear to be very uninterested in their jobs would rather carry on conversations than serve you. We only had breakfast at the hotel which was probably the highlight for us, loads to choose from. Definitely would not recommend staying here and we would not return.
If you’re going out to eat we recommend Indian fusion!! this was amazing great service and even better food.
Also recommend pirate restaurant, food was so good! And cheekitiki the cocktail bar. (photos added)

Beautiful hotel in a stunning location
First time visiting this hotel after previous stay at the hotel next door.
The views are second to none. Absolutely stunning. You can walk down to the beach but note you have to walk through the hotel next door and people do walk through the pool area in this hotel too. Pool could do with cleaning more, always looked messy in the morning. Plenty of sunbeds available.
The reception staff were always welcoming and friendly. It's clever the room key is on the wrist band.
We had a sea view room which was amazing. It was clean and comfortable, minimal but had what we needed and was cleaned daily.
The hotel has been renovated to a beautiful style.
The bar area is lovely. Cocktails and drinks, all inclusive are really nice. We never had to wait long in the day or evening.
There is some entertainment throughout the day and some evenings. But it has a much more chilled vibe than other hotels, which we enjoyed. The staff do work really hard here.
The food does let this hotel down. The breakfast is great, fry up options, bread, fruit, cereals etc. but the evening just feels lacking. Smallest main meals choices I've experienced at all inclusive and we chose to eat elsewhere unfortunately. Which is a shame because there is a lot of effort into the desserts.
Overall the hotel next door has better food and lively environment but this hotel is adults only and chilled, beautiful and I would return but wouldn't have a food package.

Cabot Cala Farrera
I visited Cabot Cala Ferrera in May 2026 as a solo traveller from the UK.
The hotel itself was immaculate. The rooms were clean and spacious. The cleaners worked very hard on a daily basis to maintain cleanliness. The cleaners did not however remove used cups from the rooms, which I found strange. The bathrooms in the bedrooms could do with some modernising.
The dining area and bar were very modern. One area which was neglected was the pool area. The cleanliness of the pool was not great. I only seen the pool being cleaned once in 7 days.
On several occasions we collected used cups from around the pool area, which were left until the next day. It seemed the hotel was extremely short staffed. This is no criticism of the staff who evidently worked tirelessly all week. Monika, Kali, Pablo and Sophia were truly fantastic.
Unfortunately the food was disappointing. I was all inclusive. Breakfast was bland with limited food options. An omelette station would improve this. Lunch was the best meal of the day with a selection of fresh salads. Evening meals were disappointing with the same food being cooked daily. I think I had spag bol 6 times due to the limited variety of food. Again a live cooking section would improve this and a selection of fresh meats and fish.
The location of the hotel is simply breathtaking. This hotel has the potential to be incredible, however in my view still some areas to be worked upon following reopening after refurbishment.
All in all, I had a fantastic holiday and made some friends for life and wonderful memories.
