Happiest and most obliging staff
My partner and I did a 3 night staycation at W Hotel Sydney. The room was fantastic with a great view over Darling Harbour. Immaculately clean and everything we needed including a pillow menu - which we used to change out to memory foam. Breakfast is what you would expect from a 5 star hotel. The lounge areas and bars have great views as well. What stood out the most was how wonderful the staff were. Always accommodating and going out of their way to make sure that your experience was great. The only 'fault' I would say is that the bath is a weird round shape - which is not conducive to relaxing. As we stayed in winter, I am not sure whether you would use the pool for sunbaking - but it was still a great space.

Low level of hygiene and cleanliness
I’m staying at the W hotel Sydney and extremely disappointed at cleanliness and hygiene.
Yest when I checked in the room wasn’t cleaned properly - there were cup marks and spill over drink at the bedside table from previous guests which was quite gross & dust from on table. I called them and someone cleaned it. I let it slide
Today when I got back at th e room in evening - the cups and tea spoon I used (I ate a dessert using it), were left badly cleaned. I could still see the spoon not washed off with marks of dessert and left in cabin as freshly cleaned.
The dust is still sitting there. They didn’t bother to take the towel to the bathroom. Even a basic four star maintains this basic level of hygiene - it’s a shocker a luxury 5-star, as well known as th is maintains such low cleanliness standards. Extremely disappointed. Also when I asked to speak to the manager- I’ve not been connected. Quite disgusted with this - not sure what about the things I can’t see??

Best place to get a full relaxing retreat
Amazing atmosphere, super calm and serene, the people there are also super lovely as well. Highly recommend coming here again!!

Really need to rethink the bathrooms
The room and the hotel are quite nice. Fairly standard for what you'd expect from a high-end hotel. They want to be 5-star, but I've marked them down because:
1. We were left standing in reception for several minutes while one person was checking people in. The Concierge and his friend just stood around chatting
2. The location is great if you want to see Darling Harbour, but if you want to go to any other part of the CBD, you have to walk quite a long way up the hill to George Street to catch the light rail. We walked up and down that hill quite a lot over the weekend.
3. Whoever designed the bathroom was obviously considering form over function. The circular bath was too small to actually immerse yourself in - maybe if you're under about 5'6" you could get under the water, but the only way for me (at 6') was able to fit in the bath was sitting bolt upright and cross-legged. Not very comfortable. There is no screen around the shower, so water goes absolutely everywhere! The bathroom was flooded and the bathrobe hanging beside the shower got wet. My husband slipped on the entryway floor coming out of the bathroom because his feet were wet. Also, the lighting is so bad I couldn't see properly to do my hair and makeup, so I hope I looked OK! Black walls and downlights really don't work, and the two strips either side of the mirror were blinding, but somehow didn't illuminate anything.
We'll stay at the Four Seasons again next time.
