Você me entende. ; D

The name obviously didn't work - it's been the most well-known speakeasy in the city for years (and they published their own book). Still, there's something charming about taking visitors. They think you're taking them to get hot dogs, then you go through the phone booth. The hot dogs are good, too.

A known secret, please don't tell can be fun, but is often quite crowded and chock-a-block with hipsters. Fun if you're in the mood.

This place is great! You really feel special if you can manage to get in to the bar. The drinks are pricey, but worth it! And the ambiance is perfect. I won't give too much away but if you are in the area, see if you can snag a seat at the bar. You won't be disappointed.

It's these little secret speakeasy's that give the East Village and the Lower East Side their charm. Unfortunately, the cat's out of the bag with PDT and like Fight Club, someone has broken the first two rules. Oh well, PDT is still a fun experience and my out of town guests always seem to enjoy their time here.

Decided to check this place out due to recommendations. We arrived a few minutes early, had a dog at crif dogs and then we entered the phone booth. What a great way to enter an establishment. The atmosphere was cozy and relaxed, perfect for a night with good company. I can't wait to go back.

I was in NY for only one night and Please Don't Tell was my favorite part of my trip :) I had the best bar hop adventure in the east village all thanks to my friend Gerard and his high school friend Mandana (Mandy)!

Here's my story:

After a long day of dragging poor Gerard to do tourist-y stuff (time square, apple store, central park) with me, we hit up east village and met up with Mandy. As much as I enjoyed doing the typical NY stuff , I was bored. I needed something not every tourist knew about. Please Don't Tell hit the spot :)

She brought us to this tiny hot dog shop (that I wouldn't bother to look at if I walked by). She told us not to worry about where she is taking us. Whaddaya know! She surprised me big time! She made a phone call in the phone booth then the wall next to her opened up! I couldn't stop smiling! Luckily we only waited 20 minutes to get in (average is 2hr wait). I'm glad we showed up around 4:30-5pm because I would have known there was a hidden door in the booth if we showed up later (there was a long line coming out of the booth).

The hostess sat us at the bar. All the drinks I've tried were delicious, even the bacon infused whisky! Pricey but totally worth the quality you get.

I LOVE NEW YORK BAR SCENES!!!

What I had:

- Cereal Milk Punch made with Momofuku Milk Bar's cereal milkl :: not as sweet as I expected but I don't mind ordering it again
- Persian Culture ::Yogurt drink...dont get it, not worth it
- David Chang Kimchi Bacon Dog :: made me miss LA's dirty dog, I liked it :) momofuku kimchi
- Gerad and Mandy had Bacon infused bourbon (highly recommend!) :: smooth drink with a light bacon after taste.
- tater tots with cheese :: tastes like normal tater tots, good to snack on with friends

Pros:

- HOT bartenders :) perfect eye candy if you're sitting at the bar
- crowd control (which explains the long wait), small bar but you don't feel claustraphobic - call and make reservations ahead of time
- cool/mellow, no windows, dark-lit ambience, nothing too crazy
- seems like a fun place to meet interesting people to talk to

Cons:

- tiny bathroom...no big deal
- persian culture cocktail
- they ask you not to take too many pictures :/...which may be a good thing but I am a picture whore
- not-so-secret

This St Marks popular speakeasy is so sought out, I seem to never be able to go inside. But the experience alone of dialing 1 on the old phone and hostess opening the door is priceless. Entrance is via Cliff Dogs. For sure entry, make reservations!

PDT is a low key, underground speakeasy that has so much appeal that even the uber cool Europeans are all over it. Nearly every party around us was speaking in some sexy foreign language. Getting reservations over the phone are as hard as getting reservations at The French Laundry. As it was a Sunday night, we decided to take our chances and walked in without any reservations. The secret entrance is cleverly located inside Crif Dogs - the hot dog shop next door that supplies the food for PDT - through the claustrophobic phone booth. Pick up the white phone which will buzz the door person inside. We were able to put our name and phone number down with an estimated wait time of 45 minutes. It happened to be less than that, because we were called back after one round of drinks across the street at Bua.

Once led inside, we were seated at a small table by the bar. The place is teeny tiny and probably seats only 35 people. It makes for a great intimate place to take a date, who will be impressed by the mere fact that you were able to get in. It's dimly lit with exposed brick walls, and taxidermy on the walls (seems like a trend at many places I went to). The music was such a mix of genres that it was like someone picked five random iPods and mixed all the playlists up.

Our server was extremely pleasant and attentive without being intrusive. The drink menu was quite extensive, full of artisan cocktails. We had the White Birch Fizz (gin based), Brazilian Tea Punch (cachaça based) and Kansai Kick (Yamazaki whisky based), which were all fantastic. You can easily spend hours here, but you have to keep ordering, otherwise they reserve the right to kick you out. Also, PDA is frowned upon... though it's really hard not to break out into make out mode when there's such dreamy lighting and luscious libations stimulating you.

If you don't have reservations, don't even bother. This place is always packed. Mainly for how small it is. Yes, this is the speakeasy where you walk through a telephone booth. The drinks a good but a little over priced. There are definitely better speakeasys out there if you're looking to walk in somewhere. If you can make a resy here, do it as it is a fun experience.

The best part about PDT is its "straight out of Batman" entrance hidden inside a phone booth inside a hot dog shop. You have to lift the receiver and dial a number and the door will open. Once inside it is a pretty normal, lively bar. The place is small and always crowded, though, so you should plan to call ahead to make a reservation to make sure they have space for you - otherwise you will have to wait.

A bit of a gimmick, yes, but a fun one.

Crif Dogs, the St. Mark’s Place hotdog haven, is a destination in itself- bacon-wrapped hotdogs served with a creative heaping of toppings and late night hours make this a must stop during East Village drinking sessions. But there is another reason to linger a little longer that has nothing to do with deep fried franks. The vintage phone booth lurking in the corner is a secret porthole into a speakeasy style lounge, PDT (Please Don’t Tell). Pick up the phone, press the buzzer, and await approval (reservations recommended!). Once you have made your super cool and sneaky entrance, an intimate, elegant space awaits, buzzing with a clandestine and illicit sort of ambience. The extensive cocktail list is creative and well crafted and food includes off-the-menu hotdog creations from next door.

If I could whisper this review I would! PDT is a top secret speakeasy accessed through the vintage phone booth inside Crif Dogs, my favourite hot dog joint. It was recently named the best bar in the world, and it is very difficult to gain entry. I first pulled it off in the classiest way possible - by stumbling through the wrong door when I was slightly tipsy and trying to find the restroom in Crif Dogs. Upon my glamourous entrance, I saw a very luxe space and immediately craved my next visit. As for the finer details? I won't tell, because I'm not supposed to. ;)

Anyone who’s ever been there raves about the tater tots, served with jalapeno slices and cheese sauce, and costing just $5. Of course, while you’re here you’ll want to sample some of their drinks and other delicious tidbits, so be forewarned that the rest of the menu is a bit pricier. Of course, this is all if you can get in - getting in requires a reservation to this well-hidden little speakeasy. Enter through a hidden door in the back of a phone booth (the phone is actually the doorbell). How’s that for atmosphere?

Spectacular cocktail list! I enjoyed the Red Velvet (yes, it actually tastes silky and smooth like red velvet) and the Shark which is blue but creamy and delicious as well. Bonus: you can get hot dogs and fries delivered to you in the speakeasy!

This place has a perfect atmosphere, great waffle fries, and awesome cocktails. My friend and I came at 6:30, put our names in, went out drinking, and came back 2.5 hours later when they called us. This is the best strategy. You won't just walk right in like Anthony Bourdain, sorry.
